Due to the fact that during demercurization works on the territory of the former Pavlodar Chemical Plant, localization of mercury sources was carried out by the method "wall in the ground", rather than by extraction and processing of mercury-containing materials, mercury monitoring is the main tool for obtaining information on the state of the environment in the area and for making managerial decisions on further demercurization works.
The main objectives of the monitoring were to establish the level of mercury content in environmental objects (atmosphere, soil, surface and ground water) in 2012 in the territory of the former Pavlodar Chemical Plant. Confirmation of the safe level of risk from residual mercury pollution to public health, including those living in the northern suburbs of Pavlodar, as well as those working on the territory of the former Khimprom - Kaustik JSC.
State ecological monitoring of the environment in the area of the northern industrial zone of Pavlodar city on the territory of demercurization works was carried out on the basis of the concluded contract on public procurement of services between ECOEXPERT LLP and the State Institution “Department of Natural Resources and Regulation of Nature Management of Pavlodar region” dated 27.03.2012 № 8. The works were carried out according to the "Monitoring Program in the area of the Northern Industrial Zone of Pavlodar city", developed by KazPII "Izyskatel" LLP in 2008.
